Celebrating Our 24th Season of BluesEd!
BluesEd is a nonprofit youth music program sponsored by the Blues Society of Omaha, dedicated to Keeping the Blues Alive by inspiring the next generation of musicians.
What began in the late 1990s as a small Sunday jam led by local musician and educator Doug Backer has grown into one of the most respected youth blues programs in the country. By 2001, BluesEd officially became part of the Blues Society of Omaha — and more than two decades later, it’s still going strong.
Each year, talented middle and high school students come together to form real working bands, coached by professional clinicians who are active performers and educators in the Omaha and Midwest music scene. Through hands-on workshops, rehearsals, and live shows, students learn the art of improvisation, collaboration, and stage performance. BluesEd bands perform throughout the summer at festivals, venues, and community events
BluesEd isn’t just about playing music. It’s about building community, growing as artists, and sharing the joy of live performance with audiences everywhere.
