About Anna Jane Abbott
Anna Jane was a senior in high school when she auditioned as a vocalist for the BluesEd program. She was placed in the BluesEd band, Dilemma, and was working very hard at private lessons, workshops and practices. Anna Jane was an ideal band mate and BluesEd student. She attended every performance, practice, rehearsal and workshop. She responded quickly and eagerly to all band requests. At band practices Anna Jane was calm and focused on learning the material. Anna Jane had a big voice but was shy and needed extra encouragement when it came to performances. With a lot of support from her band, the BluesEd Directors and Dilemma’s Lead Parent and Performance Coordinator, she finally broke out of her shell. The night before her 18th birthday she had a “break-out” performance at the Omaha Entertainment & Arts Award (OEAA) Summer Showcase. She had three more shows and a workshop, culminating in her best show to date (putting together her vocals and stage presence) at Bridge Beats on June 24th. One of the highlights of Anna Jane’s brief BluesEd career was earning the opening spot at the New Generation Music Festival. Dilemma was chosen for this spot after their performance at the OEAA’s Summer Showcase, beating out over 70 other bands. Anna’s band Dilemma was also nominated for Best Blues Band in 2016 by the OEAA’s
Some of Anna Jane’s favorite vocalists were Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. Anna’s signature song for Dilemma was “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. Although Anna Jane was only in the program & Dilemma for a short time she was able to contribute to her band by her sense of calm and peace. Anna Jane’s positive outlook on life and her dedication to improving her craft made her a delightful BluesEd student and one to emulate.
Anna Jane Abbott is survived by her mother Valerie; father Anthony; and sister Nina. Read more about Anna Jane in this Omaha World-Herald article and learn more about her band Dilemma. You can also watch videos of Anna Jane on Dilemma’s facebook page and YouTube.
