BluesEd band, Voodoo Vinyl, had a week they will never forget! On Monday, Jan. 25th, band members were interviewed by a local CBS TV station and video was recorded from their rehearsal before they left for Memphis and the International Blues Challenge's Youth Showcase. Video of that news story can be seen here: http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Student-band-headed-to-blues-festival-366510241.html Students then traveled to Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday to attend the International Blues Challenge. Students had many opportunities to visit all of venues on world famous Beale street and even had the chance to jump in on jams with students all over the United States. Our BluesEd students took every opportunity given to them on this chance of a lifetime to experience the best in Blues and Memphis Tennessee. This included a 4 a.m. bedtime for one eager student who didn't want to miss a minute of any of the amazing blues bands competing in the International Blues Challenge. (Nebraska's own, Hector Anchondo band, featuring Khayman Winfield - a BluesEd alum, made their way into the finals. A first for a band from Nebraska!) Voodoo Vinyl performed in the Youth Showcase on Friday, Jan. 29th at the Blues City Cafe and Band Box directly on Beale Street. The band was introduced by a representative of the Blues Foundation with the following words, "The Blues Society of Omaha has done a great job overall, but their BluesEd program is a model for everyone else out there with what they've done. They have 39 students and 6 bands in their program. We are privileged tonight to hear one of their bands, Voodoo Vinyl.
